This current US administration has not attacked Iran in its first term and is highly unlikely to do so in its second term because President Obama’s Middle East policy is one of ‘pulling out’ its military from the region, not putting more boots on the ground. An attack on Iran will not only eventually require ground troops but will also inflame the whole Muslim world against America, and Obama from day one has been the president of outreach to the Muslim world. Let America’s actual interests dictate U.S. foreign policy. This US administration has a number of times signaled its disinterest in attacking Iran or going to war with Iran. Both Presidential candidates have stated in the last and final debate that they will standby Israel only if Israel is attacked, which means involvement in a pre-emptive attack on Iran is off the US table!
Paula Slier of RT interviews long time Israeli Peace Activist, Uri Avnery.
Uri Avnery expounds on the objectives of the Israeli rhetoric that it will attack Iran, one of the main objectives being to push America and Europe to do something.
Excerpts from the interview:
When asked what makes him so certain that Israel will not attack Iran, Uri replied: Israel cannot conduct any major military operation without the consent of the United States; it is absolutely impossible, it’s impossible!
America will not let us attack Iran he said, because an Israeli attack on Iran will be the same as an American attack on Iran.
“An Israeli attack on Iran will be considered by Iran as an American attack. It is no different… you cannot send Israel and then pretend it doesn’t concern you, you will get the full reaction … as if you, America is leading the attack.”
He said, very few people realize Iran is a very big country. It has a very very long glorious history. It is a civilized country.
He goes on to say, even if Iran gets an atom bomb, they will not use it, just as we did not use it and America does not use it after World War II.
When asked, are sanctions a part of the solution or a part of the problem, Uri replied: I don’t believe in sanctions. Sanctions don’t help. Sanctions are unpleasant but just a pretext for US and Europe not to do anything.
He then suggested that an American President ought to do something radical to frighten the Iranians off, and at the same time he claims, America’s aggression in the region pushes Iran to seek defense.
UA: “We are in a very curious situation, nobody in the world doubts that we have a very big amount of nuclear bombs, yet we want to deny other countries from getting a nuclear bomb.”
When asked, does the Israeli public support the strike on Iran, he replied : ” Oh yes, it’s a slight majority, not as big as one could expect.”
He said: “Any public… always supports the idea of making war… it’s human nature… I think in this respect we are not different from others.”
When asked if he is afraid for the future of his country, Uri replied: “I am more afraid of the development inside Israel than any foreign danger…if we don’t make peace with the Palestinians, Israel will become very soon an apartheid State and this will mean a real danger and this will mean the collapse of anything we had hoped for in Israel.”
Former United States President Jimmy Carter acknowledged Israel is an Apartheid state. He said during one of his trips to Israel, “sooner or later this apartheid state will implode.”
American writer and radio host Stephen Lendman writes : “Israeli lawlessness matches the world’s worst. Long ago, it graduated from a regional menace to a global one. It enforces barbaric occupation harshness. Its war machine threatens and attacks neighbors. It gets away with murder because world powers don’t intervene to stop it.”
To get a glimpse of the arrogance of Israeli leadership and the lies they continue to peddle one needs to listen to this former Mossad Chief speaking on the last day of the 2012 Herzliya Conference, during a session entitled “The Ticking Clock: Dissuading and Containing Iran’s Strategic Ambitions.”
